Relax & enjoy

Cycling

Kaltern-Caldaro has long had a reputation of being a cycling paradise. It features a variety of routes suitable for beginners and experts. Through flat vineyards, around the lake, heading high up to the Mendel mountain or down to Lake Garda, towards Bozen-Bolzano, Meran-Merano or Brixen-Bressanone. One of the hosts enjoys accompanying guests to the prettiest spots around Kaltern-Caldaro.

Hiking – the Mendel mountain ridge and surrounding area

The wine trail to Oberplanitzing starts not far from Torgglhof. This is a circular route that may be extended as far as the lake. Anyone seeking a spot to cool off in summer can walk to the Ice Holes. Ice-cold air wafts out of the hollows and niches beneath the large rocks even in summer.

The start of the 'Telefonsteig' route for fitter hikers, lies slightly further up above Torgglhof. It leads up to the upper terminal of the cable car. There are many wonderful walks and hikes around Torgglhof heading in all directions, such as the extensive Mendel area, just a few minutes' drive away.

Nature and culture just pure enjoyment

Culture – wine-themed events around the lake

Kaltern-Caldaro has a lot in store for wine connoisseurs. The Bassa Atesina, known as the prettiest district of Bolzano and Environs has a wide range of activities and cultural programme to offer: wine safaris, wine architecture and tours of wine cellars - and special wine tastings of course! Experience wine – at any time of year! The 'Kalterer Seespiele' series of plays are known far and wide and see the stars of the musical and pop music scene take to the lakeside stage every year.

Researchers of local origins and traditions will love the Bassa Atesina district, which features numerous castles. Simply follow signs for 'Burgenweg' from Eppan to go on an idyllic walk. The ruins of the Leuchtenburg or St. Peter's Basilica are not only reflected in Lake Caldaro, but give an insight into the walls and history of the area – of which there is an abundance!
